Indiana adoption subsidies shall resume this year! On Tuesday, August 12, 2014, officials announced families that have adopted special needs children from Indiana’s foster care system will finally receive state adoption subsidies. Governor Mike Pence authorized the Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS) to pay subsidies to every family on its waitlist since 2009 and every family that adopts a special needs foster child in the current fiscal year. Prior to yesterday’s announcement, Indiana was the only state in the country to have placed families on a wait list and not provide the contracted state subsidies. The payments are intended to provide financial support to families that adopt foster children with more extensive needs. Approximately 1,800 families will benefit from the funding of this program.
